Introductory biology instructor. The biology department of Pacific University invites applications for General Biology I (Biol 204) instructors for spring semester 2013, January 28 – May 14 (pending final budgetary approval). Instructors may teach one section of lecture with labs or labs only. Lab sections meet MW afternoons and T/Th mornings, mid-day, and late afternoons.

 

Requirements include teaching experience and ABD or MS in biology (PhD preferred). We particularly seek applicants who have experience teaching introductory lecture or labs covering some or all of the following topics: evolution, plant diversity and physiology, animal diversity and physiology, and ecology.

 

Pacific University is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

 

The successful candidate must have authorization to work in the United States.

 

Pacific University is an independent, comprehensive university in Forest Grove, Oregon (about 25 miles west of Portland). The Biology department is part of the College of Arts and Sciences (ca. 1600 students), a liberal arts undergraduate college where faculty and staff are committed to an intimate, personalized education. The University also includes a College of Health Professions (including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Pharmacy, Dental Science and Professional Psychology), and a College of Optometry, and a College of Education.

 

The Biology Department currently has 9 permanent faculty members and 2 laboratory support staff. We are committed to learning through discovery in both the laboratory and the classroom. We graduate 30-45 majors each year. Many of our graduates pursue graduate or professional study in the health sciences or careers in teaching, biology research, or environmental biology.
